During this stage the client is pulled deeper into more advanced 12 step work and the therapeutic process. Topics addressed are suitable for a client with a period of abstinence and recovery. Relationships and boundaries are examined and the client is educated on identifying appropriate and healthy communication. We begin addressing relapse prevention more specifically and offer life skills and guidelines for a healthy, new lifestyle. At this stage, grief and trauma work can be addressed, and underlying issues can be further explored. Family work can intensify as needed.
The client is given supported access to the community through job search, volunteering or school. They will be required to document their schedule and will be working towards success in their weekly “Responsibility and Accountability group”. This group addresses work schedules and keeps the clients “plugged in” as they gain some freedom and begin to apply what they have learned in treatment to “real world” circumstances.
